With the mentorship of Kurtis Danyluk, Christian Jacob, and Wesley Willett, we developed an immersive data visualization of 130 mass shooting incidents in the United States (incidents where four or more people were killed by a shooter) from 1966 to 2017 for the HTC Vive. Our early research into dynamic scale transitions, immersive exploration, and anthropomorphism was presented at CHI 2018 as part of the conference’s Late Breaking Work poster sessions, with further research presented at VIS 2019 as part of the CG&A Special Issue on Immersive Analytics session. For more details on this project, check out the final CHI 2018 extended abstract submission, our CG&A 2019 paper, and see the original article by the Washington Post that inspired it all!
