After creating the above timeline visualization, it is clear that many of the original part colours are still being produced today. The left hand side of each bar is located at the start production date of each part, and the right hand side of the bar displays the last year that part was produced. Interestingly, many of the more recently created (~1990-2010’s) colours towards the bottom of the graph have been discontinued after a mere couple of years. Perhaps these were limited edition colours, or they had failed to differentiate themselves in an already crowded Lego part colour spectrum. While interesting insights can be made through production date, the API lacks data that correlates part colour production by specific year.
