At WaterLupus Hack 2019, a small 7 hour hackathon at the University of Waterloo dedicated to developing solutions for individuals living with lupus, I supported the team by developing onboarding mockups that were aligned with our team’s vision of our product Purple Monarch. Individuals with lupus have challenges filtering through an enormous amount of resources online which could, in fact, help improve their quality of life. Our concept for the hackathon, Purple Monarch, was an online platform that would use machine learning to suggest actions for individuals with lupus to take, based on their geographic location in Canada and other demographic information. Additionally, the site would allow participants to opt-in to a nationwide study on Lupus, as currently there is very little research performed on the illness, due to challenges connecting with people living with the condition.
